Thursday

A charming conversation with @oneeyegrey to start Thursday morning down at the lovely lido.

It is rare that time allows for such sharing of indulgences. Time needs to do one, and make this happen more often.

My swim was slightly better than the day before. The water situation is still… cloudy.

It seems that the approach to dealing with the algae issue is similar to my approach to dealing with a night on the Guinness the morning after: throw enough disinfectant down the u-bend and hope for the best.

I managed twelve muddled lengths, unsure who, or what was in front of me.

A few more changing room catch ups from the summer months, and then I cycled on, back through Brixton, Camberwell and a school day in SE17.

This was my first day back in a school since what has been something of a life-changing summer.

That’s an over-statement, but everything has changed in our little cat world.

The staff in SE17 are just LOVELY.

I didn’t tire of answering how my summer had been; I don’t think they tired of the response either.

It was as busy as can be expected on the work front for the first day back. There have been some staff changes for September. I spent a little time playing catch up.

It wasn’t Wear Your Own Clothes Day, but I did feel that I was under scrutiny.

Asked by Deputy Head today what time I was teeing off 🙁

Whoops.

I did a runner at chucking out time and cycled straight over to The Oval. I haven’t seen nearly as much cricket this summer as I had hoped for. I’m making up for it over the next week or so.

The ‘rrey were making hard work of it in the field against a very long, waggy Hampshire tail.

I saw out the innings sipping tea in the Pavilion, and generally pondering life / the South London landscape / what I was going to have for tea.

I then made the strategic move down to the new Peter May Pisshead Sun Terrace. I abstained, but enjoyed the company of the ‘rrey folk who had experienced a tired and emotional day.

I cycled back to the flat at stumps. Thursday evening was spent editing and publishing school content, and then burying my head in my hands watching the Labour leadership debate.

Oh dear.

The family situation is looking a little more promising.
