I woke up on Friday morning humming the Boon theme.
Oh dear.
Hi Hi Silver, etc.
That will teach me to watch a Boon episode midweek.
I cycled through Brixton and on to the lovely lido with Jim Diamond still in my head.
Yeah, you got me, Lone Ranger.
The official lido temperature on the board was 12 degrees. I suspect that the board hasn’t seen any marker pen action in the past couple of days.
It wasn’t a Brockwell bruiser, but there was a slight kick for the first few lengths or so.
The distraction was my stinky swimming hat. I’m not quite sure how that happened.
Maybe I should wash my hair?
Ha, bloody ha.
I completed my twelfth length just as the shadowy figures of David and Sara dive-bombed in for a bit of a jump together.
Apparently they were double dipping.
The whole lexicon of the lovely lido should be published in book form. Outdoor submissiveness does need explaining.
I towelled down, and had the surprise invite to do some male modelling.
Easy, Tiger etc.
I’m well up for the posing, but not straight after an Icicle swim.
Don’t look down, ladies.
I cycled back towards Sunny Stockwell for a full on school day in SW9. I didn’t warm up all day to be honest.
It was Comic Relief Day in school.
It will be a relief when it is all over, etc.
I don’t do fancy dress.
Or even comedy.
If you are looking for a front of house guy who is game for a laugh, then the job centre sent you the wrong fella.
I did my job, and I did it bloody well.
I even managed a smile with Boy Y when he asked me:
“When did you leave college, Sir?”
The suggestion was that I should return.
That’s a half decent idea actually, Boy Y.
The short bicycle ride back to South Lambeth Road continues to throw up wtf moments.
I actually didn’t recognise the Nine Elms nonsense sprouting up at the back of Stockwell tube.
F-me - they’ve built another bloody city.
I calmed down by admiring my lavender garden.
I’ve forgotten how many springs ago I first planted it. The continued emergence of the green shoots is testament to the quality of the Lidl garden range.
I headed out east early evening. The London Lions had a home court ball game against Cheshire Phoenix.
I arrived at the Copper Box around five minutes after tip off.
But the tip off had yet to take place.
Phoenix were stuck in traffic. The ball game finally tipped off around an hour later.
It was cagey from the first to the final quarter.
I did some stretching of my knackered knee during the break. An old fella joined me and did some similar stretching.
I don’t hold up much hope for us forming an alley-oop double act on the ball court.
Lions were ahead with ten seconds left on the clock. A BIG three pointer for the Phoenix pushed them ahead. Time had run out for the home team.
LOVE the ball game.
I made the schlep back to Sunny Stockwell feeling a little tired.
Big old Transpontine day planned for tomorrow.
