Saturday

A homemade hangover to start Saturday morning.

Sloe gin.

OUCH.

I didn’t have time to try and ease out of the hangover. I had put my name down to volunteer to marshall at Colchester Park Run.

It makes sense to put on the high vis whilst you have a broken foot.

I don’t have a broken foot.

Park Run Marshall RACE FACE, innit

I met up with the other lovely volunteers at 8:30am by the Bandstand. I had already volunteered to be sent out to the outpost of Castle Park by the turn around point.

I walked off ahead of the 9am start. I wasn’t expecting to see so many runners pass me in the opposite direction ahead of the start of the race.

One fella said hello. I didn’t recognise him. I nodded back.

And then another good morning!

A group of female runners said that it was good to see me.

Ahh - so this is the love for Park Run.

Everyone loves a steward.

LOVELY Castle Park

All that I had to do now was to make sure that I was on sentry duty at the turnaround outpost.

I had was clear instructions and a map to locate the exact spot. I needed to stand there and guide the runners around me.

EASY.

Except after 9am as I saw the lead pack approaching, I realised that I was in the wrong place.

Whoops.

I legged it a little further down the park path to the correct place.

If you did run Colchester Park Run this morning then I can confirm that you completed a 5km course.

You came very close to 4.5km though…

It was great to marshall from the perspective of a runner. I always appreciate the encouragement at every stage.

I felt like a knob, but I didn’t hold back with the high praise.

WOH! Way to go, Jase etc.

I waited until the broom van had swept up the last runner, and then snapped away at the finish line.

Anna had finished about 20 minutes earlier.

And then a haircut.

I have been converted to the Turkish barbers in town. It’s only taken me six years to find a half decent Essex barber.

You basically get what you pay for. I was happy to fork out £14 for the full head and hot towel treatment.

Having shied away last month from the fire down your ears escapade, I let my man loose with his naked flame.

Smooth…

A brief stop off for a swim on the bicycle journey back, and then luncheon brought Wivenhoe Forum issues.

Oh Lordy.

A corrupt MySQL log file took the forum down. 4uhosting was ACE in a speedy resolution.

I’m trusting open source software less and less.

Anna and I then headed back into Sunny Colch. We had a rendez vous with Red Maz of Bal’ham who is staying for the weekend.

It was a toss up between the beer festival or golf.

Bloody golf won.

Oh dear

I TWATTED some balls on the driving range, and then got bored.

It was never my ambition in life to become a golf husband.

Wifey scaring me now

We watched the first half of the Arsenal match, and then headed out to try the new Syrian cafe in the village.

It was rather decent.

We looked in at the Methodist Church gig, and then did a bit of a mini pub crawl.

Phew. Rock ‘n’ Roll etc.

There is talk of… fencing in the morning.

I don’t mean the back garden variety, either.
