Wednesday

The morning after the mad cat farewell from the night before.

This isn’t going to be very easy, is it?

Anna is away in South London. The mad cat is still everywhere around the house back over here.

Except she isn’t.

I needed to keep busy. The 7am work shift certainly helped.

I then set myself the task of doing something positive.

I like to think that the final act of irony left by the mad cat was her running out of food, just before the traumas of the past fortnight started. Like fools we went and bought supplies for the next three months.

I cycled off to the lovely Colchester Cat rescue, laden down with supplies to donate to them.

There was a circular nature to all of this; this was the place where we first met the mad cat.

You could call it a life cycle…

The volunteers there were lovely. They allowed me to talk about why I was donating the food. They turned a blind eye to my tears.

They also allowed me to have a look around the Cat Rescue. I can still recall the exact location and moment when I first met the mad cat.

She bloody bit me.

I lingered for a few seconds, looking at the latest lovely little girl sitting on the same sport, waiting to find a new friend.

How much is that doggie in the window, etc?

Of course I was tempted to rehouse another cat. Anna and I have had this conversation, as well as many other morbid ones over the past couple of days.

But we need time to remember our lovely little mad cat.

I told the Cat Rescue folk that we may return in the new year.

We’ll see.

I cycled back through the Hythe and on to the pool for a swim.

It was a decent head clearer.

A dash back to base, and then an afternoon of work.

The house was horribly quiet.

I received the reminders about renewing school domains that are about to expire. This must mean that the new school year is creeping up on us.

I was looking forward to six weeks of booze and country living.

I haven’t touched a drop in the past fortnight; I can’t wait to get back to South London with my school work.

Work ran through until early evening.

I did the cat thing blog post - for me personally, rather than anybody else.

And then I disappeared for a bicycle ride.

It was beautiful out there in the back lanes of the estuary wilds. I’m no good with this nature shit, but the hay has been harvested [?] and the fields deliver a golden aroma through your nostrils as you speed on by.

A little FaceTime with Anna, and then a chat with the charming neighbours about the events of the past few days.

An escape to South London awaits in the morning.
