London Lions 72, L******er Riders 63
To the Copper Box!
…on Sunday afternoon for the calm before the storm on the basketball court.
The London Lions were at home (ish) to the L******er Riders in the last regular ball game of the season.
The absolute SEXINESS of the play-offs starts next week. If this don’t turn you on, then you ‘aint got no switches, etc.
Equally arousing for me was the £9.99 cheapo Groupon deal used to blag a basketball ticket. I can’t honestly believe that anyone spunks out the full £22 whack for a British basketball game.
It was a fouling L******er Riders that made up 50% of my bargain basement admission. The away team elbowed their way through the first quarter, but with little reward on the points board.
There was an impressive away support tucked away in the corner of the Copper Box. This included the annoying MISS lady, who insisted on shouting out “MISS” each time the Lions were shooting from the free throw line.
Ta, for coming, Madam, etc.
Lions pulled away with a 26-16 lead at the first buzzer. The best thing you can say about the opening quarter was that a Lions player on the bench was given a hot water bottle.
Lions couldn’t sink the ball at the start of the second. This run came to a close with a spectacular dunk and a swing from Nick Lewis.
My water bottle observations then moved onto towels.
Woh - it takes a LOT of towels to run a basketball bench. Just think of that bloody laundry bill.
Lions took a 42-31 lead into the half time buzzer.
Welcome to the Jungle woke up the Copper Box during the break. The Lionesses did that hair shaking thing to Axl and pals. I was inspired to stand at the back of the arena and do my silly knackered knee stretching routine.
Mr Microphone raised a smile at the start of the third with a comment about a misfired rim shot.
He then followed this up with:
“He wiped the seat, but he still managed to miss.”
Basketball is all the more better for toilet humour and innuendo.
L******er weren’t getting any better, trailing 57-41 going into the final quarter.
A later L******er comeback to rival the football team from the City of Death was required for the Riders.
They made half-decent job, bringing back the lead to just an 8 point ball game at one point.
But it was never going to be enough.
Lions left the Copper Box ahead of home advantage in the play-offs, with a commanding 72-63 win.
