Future Londoners

I’m not normally a fan of these future views of the way that we will live in Year X. Flying cars never happened; counterfactuals are simply counter-productive. Why spend your time worrying about the woes of post-modern life when you have the NOW to live for?

But there’s some half-decent thoughts tucked away in the NESTA Future Londoners series. Ten character types have been documented, all relating to life in London in the next decade.

The reality is that the sterotyping is not so simple. There’s probably a bit of Nicki the Zero Hours Contractor, Mai’da the Local Cllr and Ty the, um, Self-Sufficient in all of us.

Key trends cover ideas such as collaborative production and consumption, socially-divisive access to communication technologies and neighbourhoods becoming more important.

Here comes the future, you can’t run from it, if you’ve got a NESTA list, I wanna be on it, etc.

Right Here, Right Now

“I’ve seen that public value doesn’t just come from within large public organisations. I’ve seen that change can come from many places both inside and outside that system, a system and a community I have much affection for.”

@dominiccampbell poses the Q:

“How would we deliver this public service or meet this community need if we were to start again from here, today, in 2013?”

…aka the launch of Public Service Launchpad.

Topological Tales

“He’s the everyman’s psychogeographer, hobbling across the hilltops with only a can of Stella and a dodgy knee for company.”
