Martin Newell

It’s the gig they said would never happen - but yep, for one afternoon only (and, um, possibly more to come…) it’s only Martin Newell: LIVE Upstairs at The Greyhound!

Hurrah!

Buoyed by the success of the first Upstairs session last month, Mr Mule is returning to the unique ambience (blimey) of the Upstairs space at The Greyhound on the afternoon of 20th August.

It is another experiment in using what would otherwise be dead space (i.e. a closed restaurant on a Saturday afternoon) and fill it with words, music and laughter.

And not necessarily in that order, either. We all know of Mr Mule’s poetic charms; he can still spin a half decent tune as well. But what of the hidden talent as a stand up comedian? It’s the way he tells’em, I tell ya…

Once again the afternoon will be aided with the mighty fine tea and cakes care of Well Bread. The local Wivenhoe bespoke catering service added an extra charm to the previous Upstairs session. Four slices of the finest cuisine later and @AnnaJCowen had declared her love of Battenberg over booze.

Mr Mule adds:

“There is of course a bar. It’s illegal, it’s immoral and yes, it makes you fat. But think of it, hey? What else are you doing? A Saturday afternoon, 3 till 5 in the dog days of August, a few fairies of thistledown floating languidly down the High Street…

and, as ever, like a fleet waiting to sail, the billowing clouds of September hanging on the estuary - as so many sheets pillows and stays, are left out by a tardly underhouse parlourmaid with splendidly contoured…”

You get the idea.

Splendid.

See you there, Comrades.
