More Moving Image

With the Lakeside Futura Dystopia season of films already scheduled by Moving Image up at the University, a new season of more mainstream films has now been announced for the Philip Road Centre.
Helping to promote an independent community cinema for Wivenhoe, Moving Image has once again come up with a run of films that shows great consideration in offering entertainment for all of the community:
Saturday April 30th The Kids Are Alright
Phillip Road Centre 7.30pm
Sunday May 1st Ponto
Phillip Road Centre 3.00pm - Family Screening
Saturday May 7th 127 Hours
Phillip Road Centre 7.30pm
Saturday May 14th Chico and Rita
Phillip Road Centre 7.30pm
Saturday May 21st Black Swan
Phillip Road Centre 7.30pm
May 22nd Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Phillip Road Centre 3.00pm - Family Screening
It’s good to see critically acclaimed films such as Black Swan making an appearance on the big screen at Wivenhoe, only a month or so after a multiplex (ugh!) release. Plus the return of the ever popular Sunday afternoon matinees are likely to be sold out yet again. Booking is advisable.
For anyone who has yet to experience a Philip Road cinematic experience (steady) then it really is worth emphasising how slick and professional the whole operation is. Run entirely by volunteers, the building is transformed with a powerful black out curtain, and an impressive sound system.
Looking ahead to next month and Moving Image already has plans for a presence at the May Fair, working in partnership with Transition Town Wivenhoe:
“Monday May 30th Wivenhoe May Fair - Movies and Shorts with Transition Wivenhoe and the Revolutionary Bicycle Cinema, from 12 – 6pm, King George V Playing Fields.”
This partnership of Moving Image and TTW was incredibly successful last weekend, drawing in a crowd of over 100 people for the pedal-powered screening of The Incredibles at The Station pub.
The vision of bringing an independent community cinema to Wivenhoe looks like it has already been realised, less than twelve months since the first screening.

Moving Image are also staging a Music Film Festival during the May Fair weekend. On Saturday 28th we will be showing The Runaways and I’m Not There, and on Sunday 29th you can see Separado and Julien Temple’s brilliant Dr Feelgood documentary, Oil City Confidential.

Thanks Jason and just a note that if any of our local audience is interested to get themselves on film! a bunch of very nice guys on the film degree course at the Colchester Institute are making a documentary about Moving Image / Reel Appeal and would really like to get some quick informal interviews with people about their experience and enjoyment of local cinema.
