Christmas by the Quay

*not one for the kiddies…*

It’s not even Bonfire Night yet (well, y’know, we had the back to front approach in Wivenhoe…) and already locals are asking “how many visits from Father Christmas can Wivenhoe accommodate?”

You can never have too much of a good thing, has to be the correct answer. Which is just as well, seeing as though the old bloke with the big black boots is set to make two public appearances down towards the Quay in only three days.

The evening of Thursday 2nd December sees the annual Wivenhoe Christmas Market at St Mary’s Church from 6pm onwards. Late night shopping (and I’d wager drinking) will be taking place down towards the front.

The Christmas lights wills be switched on by Mayor Brian Sinclair, and Santa will even be accepting letters from the children of Wivenhoe. I hope the big fella knows what a Wii is by now.

The Salvation Army will be puffing and blowing away, and the general idea is that we all spend lots of money on local Wivenhoe businesses. Hurrah!

Father Christmas then retires to The Greyhound for a Friday night bender returns briefly to Lapland, but then graces us here in Wivenhoe once again with his presence on the morning of Saturday 4th December.

There’s a slight name change, just to complicate matter, but yep - Saint Nicholas will be sailing into Wivenhoe Quay sometime on Saturday morning. Here’s hoping it’s not snowing…

Plus it’s also worth plugging the Christmas Craft Fair being organised by the charming folk of the Wivenhoe Society taking place this weekend. The William Loveless Hall will be hosting stalls from many local artisans, who once again, are all incredibly deserving of your pre-Christmas custom. All enquiries can be made online to Jean over here.

And so two Santa visits and some Christmas Craft Fair action. They’ll be selling Cadbury’s Cream Eggs in the Co-op before the end of the year.
