Album of the Day: David Ackles - American Gothic

I found this hard work. The lyrics are intense. The piano demands your attention. Never a bad thing, but I wasn’t in the mood for this level of focus.

A day mainly of work. It’s all good.

I did get to enjoy four hours of Robert Elms on BBC London. Yer man asked for suggestions for a football themed four-fer tomorrow, that isn’t overtly about football.

I mailed in with songs about winning and losing. He seemed to like this. That’s the subject matter for Saturday morning sorted then.

Bee Gees You Win Again?

An odd online link took me towards Carrington Station back in the Fair City.

Blimey. I had no idea this even existed. It closed down back in 1929. The site fascinates me. It’s on the exact same spot of Clarendon College, where I was a student in the late 80’s.

Choo choo.

Another random click led me to the line up for Leeds and Reading next weekend. I haven’t a bloody clue about most of the nonsense on the main stages. But then I’m about four decades north of the target audience.

I spent far too long chasing a £2.50 delay repayment from Greater Anglia. Don’t dangle this in front of me, and then try and put me off with endless online hoops to navigate. I’m getting there, Comrades…

I was finally free at 3pm for some exercise. I was ready for a return to running. I picked up an injury about a month ago. I then took a couple of weeks off after the most recent inking session.

Like a FOOL I headed out on a 10km cross country run in the baking Estuary Wilds sun. I took it delicately, fearful of being stranded in the middle of bloody nowhere with yet another injury.

There was a very low tide down by the estuary, aka MUD. You could feel the warmth rising up from the rich brown bankside shit.

The fly-tipped yacht on the approach to the seawall has gawn. GAWN I tell you.

Goodo.

I made it around the 10km circuit in a half decent time. Small steps.

More sport followed.

To the Table of Dreams!

I got off to a good start, winning the first game. Piss easy. I’ve got this one tied up.

Five games later and I was losing 5-1. One step up, five steps back.

Oh dear.

We watched the Man Utd Vs Fulham game into the evening. I really hate to admit this, but I’ve missed the Premier League.

Big old day ahead down at the World Famous City Ground tomorrow.
