A Wifey weekend walk around Sunny Stockwell to start Sunday morning. We were both slightly hungover, and a little hot. Fresh air was needed.
The route wasn’t anything spectacular: once around lovely Larkhall, past KLF’s Transcentral, across Clap’ham Road and then through the estate where we lived thirty years ago.
Larkhall was already attracting plenty of activity shortly after 8am. It’s a much loved local space, used by those in the know.
The two table tennis tables were tempting. Sadly we were without bat and ball.
The highlight of the walk was seeing a Sunday cyclist rolling out on a beautiful Moulton F-frame.
Chapeau!
A little work in the flat, and then out went the shout of: To Champion Hill! To watch Dulwich women!
I chose to cycle the long way round through Herne Hill. I didn’t fancy riding my way up towards Champion Hill via Camberwell in the heat.
The clue is in the Champion Hill name…
Glass filled the cycle lane at the Clap’ham Road and Stockwell Road junction. I did well to avoid it.
I reached the Railton LTN. A father and son were riding an ecargo in the opposite direction. The young kid was wearing a silly Invincibles franchise top, obviously en route to the horrid Hundred at The Oval.
Hang on.
An ecargo bike through an LTN with a kid who likes cricket.
Yep, it’s me that’s got the problem, not them.
This was actually my first football match of the season. I’ve already missed three Wiv Town fixtures due to other commitments.
Newly promoted Dulwich of the National League welcomed Crystal Palace U-21’s for a pre-season. Water breaks were aplenty, given the SCORCHIO S Ldn heat.
It’s been a while since I’ve been at Champion Hill on my own. I quite enjoyed having the time and space to myself.
It’s become a ghost ground to me. I have so many memories going back over the years. I do miss Mishi and all his various eccentricities.
The game was evenly matched. Dulwich took the lead in the first half. Palace pushed them all the way.
A genuine Goal of the Season contender - even though the season hasn’t properly started - sealed the game for Dulwich.
It was good to see some decent support from away Palace fans.
I chose to cycle back down Denmark Hill and through Camberwell. It was still bloody hot.
S Ldn summers are the best.
