Album of the Day: Steely Dan - Aja

I felt like I was being held hostage at some shitty middle class dinner party.

I caught up with the Weller four-fer from Robert Elms’ Saturday show on BBC London. It’s an impossible task to select four songs that capture his career to date. But the BBC listeners gave it a bloody good try.

The four-fer became a six-er. Have You Ever Had It Blue, Above the Clouds, The Bitterest Pill, Broken Stones, Gravity and You Do Something To Me is a mighty fine way to spend half an hour in the company of Weller.

I was sent out by A to buy two tins of chopped tomatoes. Nothing more, nothing less. I returned with another haul of as much reduced price super strength BOOZE that I could carry. I have become 8 ACE.

Chin chin.

I wimped out of a trip to the gym. Rain was forecast. I decided instead to have a brief tidy up of the anarchic garden.

We have an army of snails everywhere. We’ve always attracted snails, but never as many as this. I wonder what is behind this? Something to do with our anarchic growth, or a more wider snail issue in the area?

I don’t really mind. I find them beautiful creatures. But the strawberries are on the turn from green to the first stages of a warmer hue. I’ll be most pissed off if the snails get to them before I do.

The abandoned gym trip was replaced by a brief Estuary Wilds walk. There were some spectacular Big Essex Skies out there this afternoon.

I finally caught up with the backlog of Forest podcasts. And that’s a wrap for this season. Until pre-season starts in a couple of weeks.

I need to try and manage this better. Forest podcast action is coming at the expense of other podcasts, plus of course music. Listening to music is more relaxing than hearing three blokes stress about Forest every other day.

The threatened rain failed to appear. It was rather warm down by the Muddy Banks of the Colne. The Rowhedge crowd on the other side of the river was making the most of the Bank Holiday in the garden for The Albion.

Taking thirsty folk back and forth was the ferry. I also waved at the WivGigs crew with a boat of Come and Triers being introduced to gig rowing. The focus from the Cox was so strong that I got blanked.

Dan! Dan! Dan! Dan! Daaaaan! etc.

We watched a trashy film on Monday evening. Sometimes you need a Yin to the Yang that is often the highbrow schedule at Moving Image.

I sat on the sofa in my PJ’s, drinking super strength BOOZE and shouting out at the crappy actors.

LIVE the dream, Jase.
