Album of the Day: Count Basie - The Atomic Mr Basie

This would probably hold my attention late at night, rather than the early morning listen. It was pleasant enough in a cardigan wearing cuddly sort of way. It did sound very dated.

⭐ ⭐

The new paid for garden waste service started today. This was rolled out by the borough to try and save money.

We had to fork out around £90 in total. This includes buying a wheelie bin [SHOCK, HORROR around these parts] and then the annual fee for the fellas to take all the fauna away.

I was convinced it wasn’t going to happen today. The road outside is like a battlefield with the gas works going on. There’s more holes in the ground than there is road.

But yep, bang on 9am the boys in their big lorry turned up and emptied the brown wheelie bin.

Small wins.

I managed to escape at lunchtime for a bicycle ride. Only four layers were needed today.

There was a high tide on the horizon as I rolled out of Weird Wiv. It had a cosmetic type glisten along the surface.

For once the roads were dry. Even the mini-lakes with the blocked drains had disappeared. This was a rare OCD worry free ride.

The freshly ploughed fields were most pleasing. Piles of soil almost a foot high, all rugged and bare were on show. You could smell the country goodness in the air.

It was a short 35km loop. I hit a strong headwind on the turnaround.

A weird noise was picked up with 10k to go. I thought it was my electric motor at first. I looked up. It was the overhead cables. Storm Whatever has done its best to dislodge them.

There was a cheeky tech request waiting for me back at base. The new host that I’ve been trying out is a lazy arse.

The site needs a PHP upgrade. The new host mailed saying that they would do later in the month. But if I’d like to do it myself, here are the step by step instructions.

Cheeky fuckers.

Some more Tubby Hayes saw me into the evening. Yer man blowing away on his sax is the perfect soundtrack to be enjoyed alongside a glass of red.

Chin chin.

I renewed The Athletic subscription for another year - a bargain at £1.50 a month. The advertised price is £7.99. Does anyone actually pay that?

£1.50 for Paul Taylor and Danny Taylor’s Forest insights is money well spent.
