Friday 15th December, 2023

Breaking hearts and breaking mugs first thing on Friday morning. I’ve managed to smash up my two FAVE two mugs in the past couple of months.

Whoops.

Coordination whilst I’m still half asleep can be tricky.

Buzzed: Lambeth set to benefit from £2m of Levelling Up funding from central government

“Some ward Councillors often believe that certain local groups are more worthy than others”

Album of the Day: Eels - Beautiful Freak

There’s some great bass playing on this album. It comes close in places to being a US version of trip hop. Susan’s House is LUSH. It drifts a little towards the back end of the album, getting a little too heavy for my tastes. But interesting and something of an early 90’s timepiece.

Richard Williams published some of his lists of the year. It was ACE to see the Billy Valentine album topping his list. No arguments here.

Honourable mentions also for Peter Watts and Ned Boulting in the books section. Both are on my To Read list. My To Read list could fill a library alone tbh. I’ve managed three books all year.

Meanwhile, No Parlez at 40.

Blimey.

It’s so incredibly unhip, but I bloody love that album. Even the cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart stacks up.

Work was fiddly. I had some issues with a work tool that I needed access for all morning. The modern interweb is a dream when it works. Add in a little blockage and my world falls apart.

The buildings insurance for South Lambeth Road was finally settled and sorted. It’e been a right faff this year.

Usually we let it tick over and accept whatever renewal comes our way. It’s such a complex policy, covering four flats, and a mixture of owner occupiers, and also rented property.

I wasn’t prepared to put up with a 46% hike however. That’s one less thing to worry about for the next twelve months.

The Postman Delivers: Joni’s Hejira CD.

LUSH bass playing ahoy!

The Postman Should Have Also Delivered a load more shit. Christmas, innit.

I listened to the full Steve Cooper presser ahead of #lolspurs later. Garibaldi Red has taken to dropping the entire recording into the podcast feed.

I quite like this. It’s very geeky. It gives you a true impression of what takes place before various news organisations attempt to spin their own agenda.

Afternoon listening was Ikara Colt. What a bloody gorgeous racket. They lived young, and died young - as a band that is. The way it should be.

The debut Chat and Business is bloody brilliant. There second album is up on ebay. I may give it a punt. But I like the idea of burning bright, and then crash landing.

And then we come to Forest.

Friday evening was all about Forest.

ffs Forest.

That must be it, right?
