Album of the Day: The Sabres Of Paradise - Haunted Dancehall

This was the perfect distraction music that I needed as I got my head down for a Monday morning work task. I didn’t want complications and Dylan introspective lyrics; I wanted uplifting noise to carry me through the morning.

The sound is stretched out, even through a pair of AirPods. Lee Scratch Perry comparisons are obvious. There’s also a lot borrowed here from early Art of Noise. The beat is always one step behind. It was the rhythm I needed to tap, tap, away on the keyboard.

The mix of Wilmot here is unrecognisable to the 12″ I bought almost thirty years ago. The Sabres still sound fresh compared to some of the crappy ED music of today.

The early morning daily email from Dave Winer provided much thought, as ever. Dave is an AI enthusiast - and with good reason. He explained this morning how developers should be using AI to speed up the pace of change.

Meanwhile, I’m still struggling to get the BIMP plugin working on the latest release of GIMP for the Mac desktop.

Hey! I know: let’s ask Mt Chat GPT to guide me through writing my own plugin to complete the task in GIMP. It was a lot easier than it sounds.

It involved first installing python on my machine. I was already way out of my comfort zone. Chat GPT then held my hand through creating a script, executing it in Terminal, and then loading up the plugin in GIMP.

And bloody hell. It worked.

My morning male grooming routine involved losing the surgical stockings for the first time in a fortnight.

And thank fuck for that.

I remember way back in the day the old fella at the Lido who use to rock up wearing surgical stockings, even on S Ldn heatwave days. He would delicately unravel them, swim, and then take the same level of care to wear them once again.

I came close to becoming that old Lido fella.

The recuperation walk today involved setting off on a medium pace along the estuary. I had a joyous Garibaldi Red podcast for company.

There was a low water as I reached Quayside. It highlighted the level of silt that has built up under the jetty.

Forest podcast listening then led to Word In Your Ear. I’ve been looking forward to this episode, with Hepworth and Ellen offering their thoughts on The Beatles’ Now and Then.

I liked the observation that you should approach this as Lennon solo single, with studio backing from the other three - or even the other two.

It was mind blowing to hear that George was only 26 when The Beatles split. I had yet to start a proper job by that age. I still haven’t, in all honesty.

I was a little unsteady with the walk. I pushed it a little too far for the 5km there and back hack.

The snaps were disappointing. I’ve got a grid view activated on the PEN-F. I had to ditch a dozen or so photos as they were showing the bloody Estuary Wilds falling off the end of the world.

Truth, fiction etc.

Some GORGEOUS Stolen Goat cycling gear appeared on ebay. The prices weren’t the usual cycling industry piss takes, either.

Watching.
