Album of the Day: The KLF - The White Room
I wanted to say that this a flawless album. But it’s clearly not. The White Room is disjointed, out of place and confused. But that’s half the fun of The KLF. Subversion was always more exciting than playing the game.
There are some absolute gems on here. The singles are all five star ratings. They sound better in a club, obvs. But I doubt I will get to experience that again.
Build A Fire offers a different, darker narrative. KLF continue to fascinate me. I wish they had continued. But that would have led to disappointment. The myth grows ever more as time passes.

Another rainy Estuary Wilds day, another day of personal recuperation. Plus wfh.
I finally caught up with Nicky Campbell’s Different podcast with Pattie Boyd and Tony King. There’s some great stories in there about getting stoned and tripping with The Beatles.
Campbell is a great radio interviewer. He somehow has the skills to direct his guests in the direction he wants them, but saying very little. He’s vastly underrated. He’s on top form when it comes to anything Beatles related.
I drifted from Beatles to Dylan. I’ve been playing the first Bootleg Series box set a fair bit in recent days. It’s a useful starting point for anyone wanting to explore Dylan further. He doesn’t half ramble on though on some of the spoken word recordings.
Another day, another great read from PT behind The Athletic paywall. Forest forgotten fella Vance Warner is featured in a wonderful interview.
Stretching out 1,000+ words on a player who made fewer than ten first teams starts at Trentside could be tough. PT manages to find the stories from a player who still seems to be living the football dream.
More work, more musical explorations.
I loved the Bert Jansch track on Late Junction this week. I needed some more. But where to start? I asked Chat GPT. Rosemary Lane and Turnaround shows that you needn’t fear AI.
Some further afternoon reading of Reds and Rams took place. The revelation from the David Marples masterpiece today is that Johan Cruyff came close to becoming the Director of Football at the old BBG. Captain Bob was the owner at the time.
Blimey.
I’m looking forward to the chapter lined up for tomorrow: Ted McMinn’s Left Nipple.
The freebie Brightlingsea and Wiv Chronicle came through the letterbox. Old school community media ahoy!
The usual hit and miss - or maybe hit and amusing - approach to journalism often hits the spot. I was surprised to read a very well balanced article exploring the options for 20’s Plenty around the town.
I was suppose to be back in Sunny Stockwell this evening. My recovery isn’t going at the pace I had hoped.
Hey hoe.
I’ve now got two free days stuck in the bloody Estuary Wilds, with little work but plenty of rain.
Beatles in the morning, innit.
