Album of the Day: The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
This album has ambience. You don’t say. I love the mix of electronica with acoustic strumming. It contains some very strong songs, all delivered with rich, understated vocals.
There’s an innocence about the record. It really is quite sweet, especially given the robot future overtones. An early 2000’s masterpiece.

“We receive many press releases at Brixton Buzz. Some are useful, some are cheeky. Some are complete bullshit and need to be called out for the crap they’re spouting”

I was busy Buzzing today. Yep.
I was also busy listening to Marillion. The first album remains magnificent, There’s no shame in mentioning that, right?
The Globe mailed with an end of season survey. I’m a sucker for any random clicking with the lure of a £150 high street voucher.
“This should take ten minutes…”
I’m surprised that I lasted as long as fifteen minutes.
One of the questions asked me to describe in three words what is important for me when spending leisure money: affordable, cheap, very.
You get the idea.
I made a little more progress with the Reds and Rams book. The recent social history of the Fair City fascinates me.
I had no idea that Muhammad Ali watched boxing at the old Ice Stadium - or even that boxing took place at Lower Parliament Street.
Another reference in the book was His Bobness visiting Nottingham Castle. I bet he was as disappointed as everyone else who has ever been.
Early evening was spent watching West Ham away at Forest B in Olympiacos. It was good to see Scarpa get a brief run out again.
We tried to watch the crap cricket highlights for England, but lost the will. Take a team to the World Cup that hasn’t played any 50 over games all summer long, and what do you expect?
Liverpool was a little more lively later in the evening.
We resisted on the heating front today.
MAN OF STEEL.
