Late Junction to start the day. The new Aphex Twin EP featured. This passed me by. I was almost nostalgic for the sweaty clubs underneath the arches at the Elephant.
Oh looky over here - M still has the snaps from the Unsound days.
Wolf Eye also featured with a LJ mixtape. This starts a celebration of 60 years of the cassette. I’ve fallen slightly out of love with the format in the past year. The clarity of CD’s is winning me over.
Forest have finally given up on signing Dean Henderson - for now, anyway.
Good.
Man Utd have dicked us around for too long. Fuck ’em. We got our fingers burnt down at Trentside twelve months ago with Utd delaying over Jimmy Garner. We’re the bigger club…
Album of the Day: Tricky - Maxinquaye
A hugely important album - both on a personal and a wider macro level. Maxinquaye shouldn’t work. Fucked up Bristol beats from an outsider who somehow caught the attention of the inkie indie kids. I bloody love it. Even the Public Enemy cover works.
The beats seems to exist in a different dimension, such is the doped up delivery. Tricky has a twisted mind. You need this to record, and appreciate Maxinquaye. Essential listening.

I made tentative moves to set up a photoblog. No particular reason - it was just a thought that came to me mid-morning.
I’ve got the extra domain and space. Plus a LOVELY PEN F in which to showcase the snaps.
The plan isn’t for it to be a flickr style dumping ground for everything. I’ll be a little more selective. Plus also maybe add in a few stories behind the photos.
I did think of just whacking it all into a slider. But I find them a little lame. I don’t sit down and stare at a device as it scrolls through content as part of a slider. If I’m that interested then I want to be able to scroll down.
My podcast listening with Unprecedented came to a close. The Guto Harri fronted series was interesting, although it didn’t exactly tell us anything we didn’t already know. This was disappointing.
He had the access, but I felt that a large part of the story was being held back. Betcha there’s a book to come.
Instead the output relied too heavily on Global content. The last thing I want in a podcast about a right ring arse of a PM is cutting edge comment from a centrist like James O’Brien.
Like doh.
Surrey sent out Membership renewal details for 2024.
Blimey - we’ve still got over a month left to play in the current season.
Fair play to the ‘rrey - the prices have been frozen for another year. The club tried to tempt me over to t20 and Horrid Hundred Membership.
Like that’s going to happen.
I caught the second half of the women’s football. That was great. It’s been a brilliant summer for sport so far. The Matilda’s are my second fave name for a pro sports team, behind the NZ men’s badminton team.
Work for some reason led me to engaging with Hubba Bubba. I had to google - yep, the bubblegum is still available in the UK.
It reminds me strongly of Saturday mornings in the early 80’s spent at Rushcliffe Leisure Centre. Throw in the odd Yorkie Bar as well.
They were different days, Comrades.
I finally made it outside mid-afternoon to pick up the veg. That was a struggle.
The Essex Pride double decker looked magnificent outside the train station.
A returned from Sunny Stockwell with wild tales of the Horrid Hundred the night before.
The live game on Sky this evening was shit.
