Album of the Day: Eno - Ambient 1/Music For Airports

An album that has a gentle touch running throughout. It achieves that rare feat of passing you by, yet still being memorable. It also sounds modern, yet also analogue. Bloody love it.

I started reading David Marples’ Red and Rams - The Story of the East Midlands Derby. It’s meticulously researched, plotting the industrial origins of each club and how they existed side by side for over 150 years.

I’m still not ready for a return to playing that other lot. The fixture had become too much in recent years. Losing your manager following defeat seemed an annual occurrence. It’s good to have a break from the madness. For now…

A little more laid back was Rouler’s Return to Puy de Dôme podcast. Yep, the pro riders did their thing on an empty Puy de Dôme over a month ago now. I’m a little behind with my podcast listening.

It was a fascinating hour of listening, painting an emotional picture of the legendary climb. Hindsight shows that the reality of the race was a let down. Le Tour is nothing without the fans. I can’t see a Return to Puy de Dôme anytime soon.

Album of the Day Extra: Mile Davis - Kind of Blue

There’s a lot of emotions going off here. As with all jazz, its best listened to late afternoon. The space between the music is just as important as what you can hear. I often want more soul from the jazz I listen to. Kind of Blue achieves this. Timeless.

Another day, another Surrey YT feed to enjoy. If it’s a Tuesday then we must be away on the county festival circuit at York. It looked like a huge crowd on the old out ground.

It was good to see Mr Virdi back wearing the Three Feathers. He was out out first ball, natch. Ta for coming.

Our hero then opened the bowling and struck with his own first ball.

Funny old game.

There was a fantastic end to the game some seven hours later. Yorkshire needed three runs for the win, Surrey a single wicket. The home team limped over the line.

Long live County cricket.

Meanwhile A had disappeared back to The Oval for the Horrid Hundred. I binged in and out on the TV coverage. It felt like a fast food hit compared to the County cricket I had just dined on.

I felt tired all day, but resisted the urge to head back to bed. Day 8 of Covid shit. It is truly vile.

BE GONE.
