Day 6 of Covid shit. Still testing positive.

Arse.

Weekends are overrated anyway.

I’ve got a huge listening backlog to catch up with. When you buy up half the CD collection on the planet, then you tend to overlook any new music.

I finally managed to give the new EBTG album a spin. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but this wasn’t this.

The folkie days are long behind them; ditto the switch to hardcore ravers. Fuse sits somewhere in-between. Iguess that explains the title.

Ben leads with the vocals on some of the tracks, which was a pleasant surprise.

Tracey meanwhile still has that voice. It’s a very understated English delivery. In these days of TV talent show warblers, it’s great to hear someone using her voice, however limited, and making it sound so beautiful.

I switched to Robert Elms. He dropped Each and Every One - one of the best UK single debuts. It was a nice reminder of how the old and the new can still be relevant in your life, somehow joining together in the middle.

And then it was all about Forest.

Sorry, Lionesses.

I got myself pumped up with the BBC Nottingham coverage from 11am, ahead of the 12:30 KO. The production team have some new openers for the show, celebrating the best of Nottingham sport. These things matter.

KO approached.

KO was delayed.

Arsenal are a very classy club that usually do things on and off the pitch with great dignity. The new ticketing system seems like a right fuck up however.

This meant that I got to watch the England women with the Forest match delayed until 1pm.

I gave TNT commentary a try for the first half of Forest. It’s always good to hear Fletch commentating on his home team. He’s very good at hiding his subjectivity.

I made the switch back to BBC Nottingham for the second half, syncing up the TNT pics with the radio commentary.

Arsenal were clearly the better team. At times they were even more pleasing to watch than Spurs. I wasn’t expecting that Forest fightback though.

Elanga is electric. Awoniyi has the incredible skill of turning up just when we need him. As we say to the students back in the day job, right place, right time. Very promising. Onwards.

I then left the house for the first time in six days. Government guidance is to remain indoor for five days.

Don’t worry - I didn’t do anything silly like go on a sponsored snog-athon.

Instead I walked to the end of the road to buy some cheapo veg from the front garden that has it for sale outside.

I returned 15 minutes later absolutely knackered. Regaining my fitness is going to be a struggle.

I remained outside for a little longer, tidying up the overgrown front garden. A young mum cycled past on a Tern electric, carrying her two little ankle biters on the back.

Chapeau!

We hit the maxiumum device barrier early evening. It was a tussle between the Newcastle match, the Horrid Hundred and A’s silly golf.

Something had to give.

SEE YA Horrid Hundred.

We ended up watching the Wham! Netflix film. That was a really heartwarming story. It was told against a social backdrop that took me right back to those times and places. A feel good film with a happy ending.
