Album of the Day: PJ Harvey - Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea
There’s some great momentum behind many of the tracks here. They start at 50mph and don’t slow down.
Polly Harvey has a great technique at building up songs. You feel like you’re being carried along with them.
I love the voice and the way it matches the music effortlessly. I raised a smile when Thom Yorke waded in singing in a higher key.

It was a struggle staring at the screen for most of the day. My eyesight seems to be failing by the week.
I confess to firing up Elton’s Greatest Hits to ease me into the morning. I’m no fan. But that was a half decent Glasto performance. There’s a light touch that he adds to some songs that could be OTT.
One of the main work tools that we use has added the requirement to switch to 2FA overnight. That was a pain, being locked out for each client and having to dance through the online hoops. 2FA is fine - until you can’t find your phone.
I managed to deliver the work training late afternoon. I was quite pleased with the way it went. I did explain at the start that I prefer the wing it approach.
Same again tomorrow, colleagues.
I listened to MAD HOUR in the Test down at HQ. TMS is a far superior experience to watching the cricket live on the telly. Sky are crap at covering Test matches. TMS brings the occasion alive with the language.
To the Table of Dreams! early evening.
That was an odd one. A couple of kids were using the table as a climbing frame when we rocked up. We politely asked if we could play table tennis. English wasn’t their first language.
We started, and then the father figure appeared. He was the same fella who gatecrashed our game earlier in the week.
Once again he stood REALLY close and hovered over the table. He clearly wanted a game, but time was tight for us with work later on. We stood our ground. A crushed out a 3-1 win.
