BLOGGED: Council Hire Consultants to Clean Up Their Act
“Colchester City Council has hired consultants to help develop its Recycling and Waste Strategy”

It probably meant a lot more back in 1968, but to my contemporary ears this is just pretentious shit. It means fuck all to my world. My world is all the better for this. Never trust a hippy.

“Lambeth Council has announced that it will be receiving a grant of over £2 million from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme to retrofit six schools.
Research produced for the council estimates that it would cost between £2 billion and £5 billion to retrofit all of the residential and non-residential buildings in the borough to net-zero compatible performance.”
To Vauxhall! …for the mid-morning swim. This is becoming something of a half decent habit over recent days. I’m on course for clocking up 7km in the pool before the week is out.
I passed a couple of kids on the short bicycle ride who were on Lime bikes. These may - or may not - have been ridden under the strict T&C’s. The heavy noise coming out of the crank suggested that a freebie ride was being forced through.
I shared the fast lane at Vauxhall with another swimmer. We worked well together, pacing and matching each other from opposite ends of the pool. I clocked in at exactly 20 minutes for the 1km.
Back at base and two rather large rugs were left outside on the bin storage cover. They looked in decent condition. I checked once again ten minutes later. They were both gone. That”s how you recycle, SW8 style.
A pinged from the bloody Estuary Wilds. It really is the BLOODY Estuary Wilds right now. The building work has taken an unfortunate twist with some extra items added to the To Do list. My bank balance took a heavy sigh.
To Streatham! …mid-afternoon. I had a couple of hours spare for some charity shop digging. SW16 was always a happy hunting ground for charity shop bargains going back to 1995 and our first explorations of the patch.
It didn’t get off to a good start when I checked the price of an average second shirt in one shop: £20. No ta.
I made my way down the High Road, dipping in and out of the various charity shops. In the AirPods was the latest Graun Politics Weekly podcast. I had to turn it off when the ad midway through spoke of the “gifting season.”
I think they mean Mother’s Day and Easter. The fucking middle classes spoil EVERYTHING.
I gifted myself a couple of CD’s - Pendulum’s second release and the Edie Brickell debut. Yours for £1 all in.

This may just be something of a renaissance for the Streatham charity shop circuit.
Time was a little tight for the bicycle ride back down towards Sunny Stockwell. Work was calling and I had left it a little late.
The Flute Man of SW8 was putting in an early evening overtime encore. I didn’t hang arounds for the applause.
Streatham to Sunny Stockwell in 11 mins flat.
Chapeau!
I watched both the Man Utd and Arsenal games, before settling down for a Sleaford fucking Mods Twitter listening party.
