Wivenhoe Farmer's Market

To the Congregational Hall! …on Saturday morning for what *some* have dubbed the Wivenhoe Harvest Festival Fringe.

Relax, Comrades - we’re talkin’ about the always ACE monthly Farmer’s Market.

The arrival of the Autumnal season signals a kitchen table waiting to be adorned with a change in produce to reflect the change in conditions.

It also signals an extra large bacon buttie from Transition Town Wivenhoe, lining the stomach for all of the toil of the land that would later be worked on over the weekend. Those garden borders aren’t attended to on fresh air alone. Bacon is the nourishment that rids you of weeds.

September was an exceptionally busy Wivenhoe Farmer’s Market. As well as the spuds and beetroots starting to come into season, there is still a crossover with some of the late summer veg to balance out the bacon intake.

The market continues to grow in size, attracting new stallholders and punters. Soup was on sale in the garden on Saturday, with the TTW Cafe inside adding another social element to the morning.

Elsewhere around the Hall and you could buy fresh fish from Brightlingsea, pork from Great Bentley and soap from the muddy banks of the Colne. Not quite right, but the charming @ColneSoap were once again on hand to make sure that I could scrub up well after pruning my borders later on in the day.

Worto Juice was the find of the morning. Plans were considered to combine the vitamin rich drink with a couple of chocktails just ahead of luncheon.

Steady the buffers.

Best let the bacon settle first.

But it wasn’t all about the autumnal rich pickings from the land. TTW was also providing an incredibly busy Dr Bike surgery for free. Buy bacon, get yer back wheel pumped up to the same intensity to match yer stomach.

Job’s a good ‘un.
