The early bird catches the worm, ‘n all that - and we’re not talking about staggering out of Liquid nightclub at 4am, either.

If you are wandering around the streets of Wivenhoe sometime in the early hours of 21st April, you may be interested in the Dawn Chorus walk. Following on from the tremendous success of the Birds of Wivenhoe Nottage talk last month, Glyn, George, Chris and Richard are building upon the interest, and announcing a series of other bird related events taking us through until the autumn.

Like the orignal Birds of Wivenhoe talk, a very decent charitable element has been built in. Once again Headway will be benefitting from any donations coming out of the Dawn Chorus.

As well as hopefully some hyperlocal nightingale action, the 4:45am start [OUCH] will be rewarded with a discounted Full English at The Greyhound. The Liquid nightclub staggerers may even appreciate a refill.

Chin chin.

Looking slightly further ahead and an intriguing Stag Beetles and Moth Magic overnight vigil is also planned for 23td June.

I’m not making this up

“Up to four light traps will be strategically placed around Wivenhoe allowing close-up views of some spectacular local moths and other nocturnal insects. We will start around 9pm to accommodate the Stag Beetles which tend to fly at dusk and will have a morning session where we will be able to show some of the moths caught in full daylight. This will precede (and may well link up with) a scheduled Colchester Natural History Society event - The Wild Walk, which will start from Wivenhoe Wood. Chris Gibson will link up with Ted Benton who will be leading this other event.”

Looking slightly further ahead on the hyperlocal wildlife landscape and a Birds of Wivenhoe Part II is planned for 7th September, as well as a Wivenhoe Wildlife Vigil from the Jetty on 16th September.

Well I never.

All enquiries via an email to Glyn.
