Introducing Lou Terry

Lou Terry

Introducing Lou Terry of course may sound a little impersonal, especially to those within Wivenhoe who have already been introduced the fine young singer songwriter. But I’m all for the hyper hyper #hyperlocal, not to mention supporting genuine local talent that deserves to be celebrated.

And so with young Lou living almost within a guitar chord change of where these very words are being bashed out (somewhat with less grace than the guitar playing) I thought it worthy to spread Wivenhoe’s finest to a wider audience.

I first became aware of Lou when the Lovely Lovely Neighbour tipped me off:

“Make sure you check out Lou at the May Fair. Absolute raw talent with genuine passion.”

Which pretty much describes exactly what I’m looking for when I’m compiling a playlist to get me through those long Wivenhoe nights. I hope I’m not breaking any embargoes (whoops - more acts to follow…) when I say that Lou will be performing on the Sunrise stage at the May Fair at the end of the month.

Thankfully @AnnaJCowen and I had a sneak preview over the Royal Wedding weekend of what the May Fair masses can expect. Lou wasn’t the surprise booking for the Royal nuptials, but he did steal the show at the Wivenhoe Town FC beer festival.

Blimey.

Without any introductions as to who the young talent playing to us was, @AnnaJCowen and I both instinctively knew that this was the young chap that the Lovely Lovely Neighobour had been bigging up.

WOW.

Absolutely ace: full of confidence - yet not cocky, technically brilliant on the guitar - yet still raw and engaging, songs from the heart - without clichés.

The video embedded above is from a couple of years ago now - an absolute age when it comes to yoof and formulating your own experiences. It’s not where yer from (um, Wivenhoe!) but where you’re at. I like to think that come May Fair day, Lou will be at a place that will capture the moment perfectly.

Lou’s reputation is already starting to spread outside of Wivenhoe - we really should savour this unique local talent whilst we can. He is under the radar of the influential Keep Colchester Cool, and has been asked to play this weekend at the SoUNDAY event at Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Sunny Colch.

The idea is for artists hopeful of a spot at the prestigious Colchester Free Festival this summer to put in a performance in the Shopping Centre, the main sponsor of the event this year. You can catch Lou in town on 8th May, sometime between 1-3pm.

Remember where you heard it first - at the May Fair / at Wivenhoe Town FC / in the back garden of the Lovely Lovely Neighbour.

Introducing Lou Terry: VERY nice to meet you.
