Colchester Bike Week

Published as part of the Keep Colchester Cycling project.

The schedule is starting to shape up here in Colchester for the local events based around Bike Week. The national week of positive cycling promotion pedals out on the week beginning 18 June.

It is an opportunity to raise awareness around the benefits of bicycling, as well as to meet up with like-minded folk, and to demonstrate that a two wheeled lifestyle is actually rather fun.

With Colchester having the official status of a Cycling Town, local organisers have decided to stretch the theme out to become something of a Bike Month. Many of the events in the provisional timetable routinely take place anyway - this is the chance to showcase them.

Currently lined up for Colchester is:

2 June – possible return of the Tour Series

11 June – Colchester Young Children’s Festival, Castle Park

15 June – Colchester Rovers 10 mile time trial (Peldon)

18 June – start of Bike Week

18 June – VC Revolution - 40m ride to Wix

20 June – Colchester Rovers grass track-racing tbc

21 June – Forty Plus ride from Great Totham

23 June – Colchester Stars cycle speedway tbc

23 June – CTC Thursday ride (north Colchester)

26 June – Sustrans Fresh Air Miles ride to Stisted Tea Rooms tbc

26 June – end of Bike Week

16 July – Colchester Carnival

24 July – Family bike ride from Abbey Fields to Friday Woods

7 Aug – CTC Essex – Colchester 40/40

27 Aug – Colchester Free Festival - hurrah!

Here at Keep Colchester Cycling and EVERY week is Bike Week to be honest. It is great to be able to work within the local community and help to promote cycling with these dedicated events.

The best form of publicity however is simply to cycle. The more cyclists on the streets of Colchester sends out the positive message that cycling is safe, sustainable and highly social.

Chapeau!
