Wivenhoe Cycling Revolution
Spring is here (um, hang on - it’s raining…) and so it must mean that it’s time for yet another outdoor cinema experience in Wivenhoe - hurrah!
Transition Town Wivenhoe are proudly partnering up with The Station and Moving Image to screen The Incredibles in the beer garden at the back of the pub this Sunday evening.
Fresh from some recent weekend workshops, the superbly named Revolutionary Pedal-Powered Cinema is returning to these parts for an 8pm screening on the 17th April.
Landlady supreme, Chelsea, rather kindly explains:
“Have you never been to an outdoor cinema? This Sunday evening there will be a FREE screening of The Incredibles in the pub car park. Bring your camping chairs, blankets, picnics and flasks, and enjoy cinema alfresco.
The lovely people from TTW will be happy for people to help with the pedaling. Any ideas of what you might like to see next? Grease, Indiana Jones, Nightmare on Elm Street? We’d love to hear your ideas…”
I think that it is at this point that I am legally obliged to point out that life in Wivenhoe would be improved on an immeasurable scale if Purple Rain ever made an appearance outside a Wivenhoe pub. I’m not talking about the weather, either.
TTW add:
“Supersmoothies from using local produce and a bicycle powered blender. Test your pedaling super-powers against the dastardly watt-what machine. The fiendish Dr Bike will make an appearance too, with free check-ups for your bicycle before the film. Bring a fold-up seat for maximum comfort. No Capes.”
What is really wonderful to witness with TTW is the willingness of the group to work alongside other groups within the town. The Halloween Ghostbusters screening was a partnership with the Nottage; the bike generator workshops were staged at the back of the Bookshop.
As well as putting out a rallying call to try and mobilise supporters in helping out with the Green Police at the May Fair, it’s now great to see TTW forming partnerships with pubs.
TTW folk were down at the Quay late Saturday afternoon, making the most of the glorious estuary sunset, and pedaling away on a generator built in a recent workshop.
This could be a long, hot summer of cycling and cinema action around the town. Anyone want to share a tandem on the back row?
Blimey.
