Coup d’Vauxhall

Strange rumblings behind the scenes at the Vauxhall Constituency Labour Party (CLP). Poor old @kevindcraig, the agent for Kate Hoey MP, appears to be the victim of a campaign to remove him from his role as the Secretary of the CLP.

Nominations and elections are currently doing the rounds in the branches, to see if the left of centre @kevindcraig keeps his Vauxhall position.

With Hoey having received another impressive endorsement from the electorate on May 6th, you would have thought that the local branches would want to reward the talent behind the campaign.

But this is the Rotten Borough, let us not forget. The tribal divisions within the Labour camp make the ConDem national coalition love-in look like a genuine political meeting of the minds.

The right of the Nu Labour party in Lambeth is making moves on @kevindcraig, just over a month since he helped the party to return an MP to Westminster yet again. The Stop Kev campaign is being put in place by a squeaky clean (and recently newly elected) Lambeth councillor.

A quick whiz around the wards, and we see that the first moves came from within Prince’s. The branch members decided not to make any nominations, when Councillor Morgan, the self-appointed “third hardest working councillor in Lambeth,” pitched up with the name of his own right of centre candidate.

Yer man behind the Stop Kev campaign could now see that the ball was truly starting to move in his favour. Ferndale ward “forgot” to put forward the nomination for the left of centre Ted Ryans as Vice-Chair, despite an email assurance from Hannah Pawlby, the Secretary of Ferndale, to put his name to the members.

Here’s where @kevindcraig first caught wind of the Nu Labour attempt to unsettle the Vauxhall CLP. Apologies were made to Ted Ryans, and the possibility of the London Region of the party being called in was muttered, to try and decide how the Ferndale ballot managed to balls up big time.

Oval, Larkhall, Vassall, Stockwell and Clap’ham Town all meet next week to make nominations. With a strong Nu Labour presence within the wards and their Town Hall representation, the move by Councillor Morgan back in Prince’s could be repeated.

But why would yer squeaky clean (and recently newly elected) Lambeth councillor masterminding the Stop Kev campaign want to remove the man behind Hoey? Control of the Vauxhall CLP is something that the Nu Labour group within the Town Hall has yet to achieve.

The thinking is control the CLP, control the MP. Cripes. Taking on the might of Kate Hoey requires more political power than the squeaky clean (and recently newly elected) Lambeth councillor currently has.

Keep your eye on the prize though. Or even the Vauxhall CLP nomination for the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for *deep breath* 2015.

Once bitten, twice shy?
