To The Oval! For Day 4 of Surrey Vs the Essex Slappers!
Plus don’t forget the rain, Jase.
I left the flat with dull, but dry SW8 skies. Ten minutes later and I was seeking shelter in the Pavilion from the SE11 drizzle.
Oh dear.
The covers were on in the outfield. I did some silly stretching to kill the time.
The covers came off. Then they came back on again. I surveyed the scene.
It didn’t look great for any morning play with a whole heap of DIRTY skies swirling around from all sides.
Fast forward a couple of hours.
The skies looked dry. A quick read of the Surrey X feed, and yep – play was to due to start in around fifteen minutes time.
I was back in the Pavilion middle tier, and back sitting rather close to, erm, Sir John Major.
Oh blimey.
An afternoon on the piss in the Peter May this wasn’t.
The game was fascinating. After four days play, Essex still had a chance of winning the top of the table clash. They needed 180 runs from forty odd overs.
Surrey were the favourites, needing to take seven wickets.
The Surrey bowlers toiled. One by one, they made progress through the Essex batting order. But it was bloody hard work.
I departed with two wickets needed to be taken in the hour or so of play left in the day. Some untimely work shifts were calling back in the flat.
I logged on, checked X, and WOH! Surrey had won.
