A tough afternoon for Wivenhoe Town at home to Brantham Athletic in the FA Vase. Cup competitions are overrated anyway.
Everything was set up fine: a lush Broad Lane pitch, a decent crowd and late summer sun. Shame about the result.
Brantham were bloody brilliant. Half their team looked like they would be returning back to school next week. But they weren’t bullied and showed plenty of pace down the wings.
Wivenhoe’s older heads didn’t drop. They pressed all the way to the final whistle.
Another Cup dream shattered.
Oh well.
