Essex Vs Surrey, Metro Bank Cup

A steaming hot day out at the County Ground as the ‘rrey rolled into town to face Essex in the Battle of the Wooden Spoon.

This has been an ‘under par’ performance from both teams in the competition this year.

No shit.

Surrey have been decimated by the ECB and the Horrid Hundred. A pre-match injury to the Skipper didn’t help. It was the walking wounded and a schoolboy XI for the ‘rrey.

A half decent game of cricket broke out. At least Essex batted out their 50 overs. Surrey put up a decent chase, including a magnificent century from Ryan Patel. He was supported superbly by the 17 year-old Krish Patel, making his County debut.

Somehow Surrey pulled it off, requiring three off the final ball. Quite remarkable.

Long Live County Cricket.

Long Live Schoolboy Cricket.

Chelmsford remains my least favourite ground on the County circuit.

Back at The Oval next month, innit.
