The Postman Delivers:

25th February, 2021

Quite a mixed Bowie bag. In my shameless effort to become a Bowie cassette completist ahead of @fnktrm, I managed to blag a couple of tapes from an old friend.

Suzy very kindly sent over Tim Machine and Rare Tracks; the former everyone knows about for all the wrong reasons, the latter is new to me. Much appreciated, all the same.

And then at the opposite end of the quality control spectrum we have Hunky Dory. I hope it sounds as rich on cassette as the vinyl version. My Bowie timeline was all warped until only very recently. I was familiar with Hunky Dory, but had no idea that it fitted in pre-Ziggy. It sounded a little more polished and crafted to me.

Timeless.

Unlike my cassette deck, which has sadly developed yet another fault. It’s slowing down. I don’t think it’s the belt drive that is causing this. It was replaced before I bought the deck. There’s a handy YouTube video that suggests the power frequency for the motor needs to be adjusted. I may give it a go later if I’m feeling brave - or just want to listen to some Tin Machine.

Unlikely.

Ah - just remembered: I’ve got a vinyl copy of Hunky Dory, minus the sleeve. An absolute STEAL in a Sunny Colch charity shop for £2. Time to set up an eBay search to fill in the missing pieces.
