Queens Road Contention

Queens Road

A good spot by the good folk of Queens Road Resident’s Association – a planning application has been submitted to Colchester Borough Council to build a “detached dwelling with associated parking for two cars” on the site of the former garden of 58 Queens Road.

I personally have a policy of not commenting upon private planning apps – I still have ambitions for the 24/7 nightclub down at the bottom of the garden. But 58 Queens Road is something of a hyperlocal contentious issue.

Plans were mooted over the summer months for a community clean up of the space. Nothing on a Ground Force scale, simply a little spruce up around the edges and the sprinkling of some magic seeds, and see where Mother Nature takes it all.

But it was decided that this *may* have aggrieved the owner, and just *may* have possibly led to further abandoning of rubble and other items to add to the current state of overgrowth. Plus the eu naturale look may not be to everyone’ prim ‘n proper English country garden look, but at least it is keeping it real, man.

But now the planning application is proposing something quite different. This is the third application from the owner – the previous two were withdrawn after local objections and stringent requirements by the Environment Agency. The plot of land is bordered by the Queens Road brook which trickles down towards the Colne.

Although the land has remained dormant for some time now, the clock is ticking on the planning application. Any residents who wish to make a comment – for or against – have until the 21st December. Sue Jackson is the CBC Planning Officer handling the application. You can comment online, or email planning.services@colchester.gov.uk, quoting reference 112284 for further information.
