Tour de Tendring

With the cycling season almost upon us, news comes our way of yet another race rolling out over the coming months from around these parts. The Tour de Tendring takes place on Sunday 22nd May, with over 1,000 riders expected to take part.

What we like about the Tour is the inclusive nature of the event. This is very much a mass participatory family ride, with two different distances being cycled. There is a 20 mile family friendly circuit, and then a 50 mile ride for the more experienced cyclists.

The event isn’t a race – participation and spreading the positives about cycling is very much the message. Plus Tendring can boast some truly natural areas of beauty, which are best explored at leisure on a bicycle. Unlike le Tour namesake, Tendring thankfully isn’t big on mountain climbs either.

Dovercourt swimming pool is the start and finish point, with a festival of cycling promised to help promote the activity within the area.

To sign up for the Tour de Tendring go to www.bike-events.com. Any school, club, organisation or charity wanting to be represented at the site should call Lynn Lee on 01255 686651 or e-mail llee@tendringdc.gov.uk for an exhibition application pack.
