Fill That Hole
Published as part of the Keep Colchester Cycling project.

Here’s a rather nifty online monitoring tool, suggested by our very good friend (and Colchester cycling companion) @pmmikes: Fill That Hole [safe for work - trust us] addresses the daily bain of every local councillor – potholes.
The idea is to crowd source the effectiveness of local authorities around the country in, um, filling that hole. It’s a great way of analysing the effectiveness of hole filling in your own #hyperlocal patch.
We’re not quite sure why registering is necessary; likewise the quantitative and absolute accuracy of the online tool is dependent on the number of users in each region submitting an online pot hole assessment.
Still – it’s a move in the right direction, and may even push potholes up the local authority agenda.
Around our Colchester cycling patch and Essex County Council appears to emerge rather well in the great pothole head count. The speed of fixing the problems is rated as 3 out of 5 stars, with the quality of repairs reckoned to be 2.5 out of 5 stars.
Only four votes have been cast to date in the entire county…
At the time of publishing, some 1,435 potholes were recorded in Essex. Here at Keep Colchester Cycling and we have far better ways of spending these glorious spring afternoon than having an online snoop at other areas around the country.
Four thousand holes in Blackburn Lancashire looks likely though…
This has been something of a particularly harsh North Essex winter. The roads won’t last forever, and neither will the local authority budget for fixing them.
Meanwhile – console yourself in some glorious pictures of Glum Councillors staring into the great abyss.
