Moving Image Updates

News from Moving Image, Wivenhoe’s very own community based cinema…
The weekly screenings at the Phillip Road Centre and the Lakeside up at the University are taking a short festive break. The schedule for Phillip Road will resume once again on January 8th. The Moving Image website is the best place for updates.
Meanwhile, the Lakeside programme for the New Year has just been announced. Curated under the broad theme of Word War II, here’s what Wivenhoe locals can expect on campus in a few weeks:
17 Jan
Inglorious Basterds (US 2009)
Cert 18, 153 mins
Directed by Quentin Tarantino
English language
31 Jan
Sophie Scholl (Germany/France, 2005)
Cert PG, 115 mins
Directed by Marc Rothemund
English subtitles
21 Feb
Went the Day Well? (UK, 1942)
Cert PG 92 mins
Directed by Alberto Cavalcanti
English language
28 Feb
Army of Shadows (L’armée des ombres) (France, 1969)
Cert 12, 138 mins
Directed by Jean-Pierre Melville
English subtitles
14 March
Ivan’s Childhood (USSR, 1962)
Cert PG, 90 mins
Directed by Andrei Tarkovsky
English subtitles
It’s quite an ambitious run of films, and one that is certainly worthy of further investigation. All films start at 7:30 at the Lakeside, with the bargain price of just £3 for members, and £4 for non-members (you really should join…)
Sixteen films have been screened in total since Moving Image launched the season with Sex, Drugs & Rock & Roll back in October. The Sunday family matinees have both sold out, and Moving Image now boasts an impressive membership base of two hundred local film fans.
There’s certainly something romantic about an independent, community run cinema – so much so that all members are being invited to a VIP Valentine Day’s event up at the Lakeside on February 14th.
Love it.
