Cut and Paste
A rather fine cause, with some rather fine speakers. It will be interesting to see what the Labour party MP and the *Independent* Labour councillor have to say about the current mis-management of Lambeth Living.

I hope the meeting every success.
However, there was a meeting called by Lambeth Save our Services (which was launched on 1 July) on 5 August, sponsored by Unison with several Unison reps there, which had 25 people at it including Ted Knight and the independent Labour concillor.
Lambeth Save our Services has already put out an 8-page bulletin of fighting the cuts which was widely distributed at lobbies of the council and the country show (and where boxes of them mysteriously disappeared overnight).
The meeting came up with a long list of proposals and also heard from workers at the one o clock clubs, who have scored a success by getting the council to backtrack on some of their cuts.
A report can be found at http://lambethactivists.blogspot.com/
The meeting heard from the sponsors of the above meeting, who introduced themselves as from the SWP and Right to Work, and said that they would like support for the above meeting and that the aim was to plan for the Right to Work protest at the Tory Party Conference on the 3 October. This was agreed.
But it was also agreed that a Lambeth Save our Services public meeting would need to take place on 29 September to allow time to build for it and get campaigns, unions, activists, residents etc along to it in order to build a united (emphasis on the united) resistance. This was also agreed. (see above minutes).
So it is a bit of a surprise to find out that another Lambeth anti-cuts campaign has been launched by people who were at the Lambeth Save our Services meeting, and that ironically it is called “Lambeth United”.
Hopefully the presence of Unison’s John Rogers on the platform and attendance of others might be able to get a united campaign off the ground rather than have borough activists (including some in the same union) divided in the face of some of the worst attacks for decades.
The next meeting on Lambeth Save our Services is at 6 Acre Lance (unison offices on Thursday 19 August at 6.30pm. All welcome.
